What would you propose for the topic to impact others positively?

The importance and popularism of rock lies in the positive influence it had in society in its peak, so I have a few interesting answers for this question just so you can realize about these positive aspects.

In the boom era of Rock this genre turned into a symbol to represent a collective identity, generating a political and cultural structure, becoming a symbol of rebellion, which allowed young people to group together to express themselves.

It also influenced in political and social changes, for example, racism. During the 60s black singers were influencing white singers, they were using black singer's techniques and resources, this led to the disappearance of racial prejudices. The greastest example of the influence of black singers in Rock is the legendary Jimi Hendrix.

However, Rock also served as a protest tool. Rock of the 60s was one of the first movements that took awareness of social problems such as injustice and abuse of power. At the time, musicians achieved that their message was visualized by everyone and benefic concerts took place, such as the one in Bangladesh in 1971.

Decades later, in the Rock of the 70s and 80s Rock continued working with the same purpose, some examples of songs with strong social critics are: God Save the Queen by Sex Pistols, Born in the USA by Bruce Springsteen, Another Brink in The Wall by Pink Floyd, Civil War by Guns N' Roses and I Want To Break Free by Queen. These songs deal with topics such as: criticism and satire of political elites, criticism to wars that took place in Irak and Vietnam, criticism to the strict education system and release of sexual orientation and gender roles.

So, as you can see, people have embraced Rock throughout history because it's impact in society has been huge, nowdays, the tools provided by this genre continue being a form of expression, rock songs impact people because they continue creating a feeling of identification in their enthusiasts. But in addition, the social messages sent through these songs continue to have value today decades later, so they continue to be a symbol for social protests carried out around the world, as a sign of rebellion against the system and nonconformity, considering this, rock will be eternal and will never go out of style.

  1. Daniela Royero: I think that is an interesting topic because I think that rock is a set of many things that convey a lot of messages through art, history and culture. The way in which you develop the topic makes the reading catchy and easy to follow, and I also liked the examples that you provided because it makes that we can understand the main idea of the text.
